ReDefine Originals Leads New Partnership to Galvanize Spain's Animation Ecosystem

Partnership with the Spanish Government’s SETT fund will initially produce at least three animated feature films over the next five years, equating to a production volume of more than $100m

ReDefine Originals is spearheading a new venture to supercharge the growth of Spain's animation industry through a new strategic partnership between DNEG / Prime Focus Studios and the Spanish Government's SETT fund to invest in and develop Canary Islands-based animation studio Anima Kitchent.

The partnership will initially produce at least three animated feature films over the next five years, equating to a production volume of more than $100m.

Led by Managing Director Greg Gavanski, ReDefine Originals will bring its creative expertise, real time animation pipeline, and production methodologies to Anima Kitchent. The partnership will directly create more than 275 new jobs and support the wider growth of the animation ecosystem across the Canary Islands with an estimated 550 indirect industry roles created in the region over the next five years.

Commenting on the news, ReDefine Originals MD Greg Gavanski said:

“Building on the excellent foundations that Angel Molinero, Jose Carlos Garcia de Letona and the team have created at Anima Kitchent, we are excited to be working with SETT to supercharge the next stage of the studio’s development.”

“I see no limits to the potential of this venture, or to our ambitions to create global IP led out of the Canaries and Spain. We will be producing three new animated features over the next five years, which will create and attract many new highly skilled jobs and opportunities in the region. We plan to collaborate with the wider network of production partners, academic institutions, and local training facilities to develop specialised programmes and to help create a sustainable ecosystem for animation production in the Canary Islands. We are excited to be bringing together the best talent, the best creators, and the best technology to produce global animated entertainment with transmedia commercial potential, and I hope to be able to announce our first project very soon.”
